When a page on your website doesn't load, an error message will be displayed to the site visitor. As there are different errors, there are different pages that will appear, but what is typical for all of them is that they're generic and probably will have absolutely nothing that is similar to the layout of your site, which may be frustrating for any visitor. This is the main reason why hosting providers have introduced a feature referred to as Custom Error Pages. For a range of different errors, website visitors will see your customized content, which may be informative or amusing, in accordance with your preference, and that will match the design and style of your Internet site, so the pages won't appear as if they are not part of your website at all. You can use this option for numerous errors - 400 (Bad request), 401 (Unauthorized), 403 (Forbidden) and 404 (File not Found).

Custom Error Pages in Cloud Hosting

You can set up custom error pages for each of your domains or subdomains. The feature is supported by all cloud hosting plans which we offer, so once you log in to the Hepsia Control Panel and visit the Hosted Domains section, you can easily click on the Edit button for a domain/subdomain and in the pop-up that will appear, you may select the kind of error page that should show up - a default one from our system, a conventional Apache web server page or a custom one. For the aforementioned option, you'll have to assign the URL to the page, so if you use customized pages, you must upload the files in your web hosting account first. One other way is to use an .htaccess file positioned in the domain or subdomain folder with a line for each error type. The correct syntax can be seen in our Knowledge Base, to help you use this function even if you do not have any previous experience.

Custom Error Pages in Semi-dedicated Servers

All of our semi-dedicated servers support custom error pages, so you'll be able to use this function for any domain or subdomain hosted in your account. All it will take to do this is to visit the Hosted Domains section of the Hepsia Control Panel, to click on the Edit button associated with the specific domain/subdomain and then to enter the link to the custom file. You'll be able to do this independently for every error type. You will be able to switch back to a generic error page at any time if necessary and the change will take effect at once. An alternative way to get the same exact result is to place an .htaccess file inside the domain or subdomain folder of the website which you want to modify and to enter a few lines of program code within it. If you'd like to try this method, you can copy and paste the necessary code from our Knowledge Base article on custom error pages, thus you will not need any programming skills or previous experience.
